Bio:  Ranks alongside Stryper and Barren Cross as one of the pioneering groups to come out of the burgeoning eighties Christian metal scene.  Founding member Michael Bloodgood developed the vision for the Seattle, Washington based group in 1982 but did not finalize initial line up until 1985.

A four song demo, Metal Missionaries, recorded to secure a record deal went on to sell a respectable 5000 copies.  Blues rocker Darrell Mansfield gave a copy of the demo to Frontline Records owner Jimmy Kempner, which led to Bloodgood signing with the label.

Bloodgood released four studio albums on Frontline/Intense: Bloodgood (1986), Detonation (1987), Rock In A Hard Place (1988) and Out Of The Darkness (1989). 

Guitarist David Zaffiro performed on the first three albums only to be supplanted by Paul Jackson for Out Of The Darkness.  Drummer J.T. Taylor started with the group on the self-titled debut while his replacement, Mark Welling (Perennial), lent his timekeeping skills to Detonation and Rock In A Hard Place.  Kevin Whistler filled in on Out Of The Darkness.

Vocalist Les Carlson and Michael Bloodgood have remained the group’s two foundational members throughout the years.

Bloodgood recorded its final studio album, All Stand Together, in 1991 before breaking up three years later.

Of Interest: David Zaffiro went on to record several solo albums, with The Other Side (1989) and In Scarlet Storm (1990) being the most noteworthy.  He has also produced albums by Holy Soldier and Zion.  Kevin Whistler was a member of Watchmen at the time it recorded its full length debut, Generation (1989).  Michael Bloodgood released a solo album, The Cross Changes Everything, in 2008.

Current Status: Bloodgood reformed in 2006 with previous drummer Mark Welling and Stryper guitarist Oz Fox.  The group is reported to be at work on a new album.
